A Meaningful Session Close to My Heart
Capturing the very beginning of a family’s journey is always a huge blessing, and especially this one as it feels extra close to my heart. Poppy and I actually went to high school together, so when she messaged me to say she was expecting and wanted me to photograph her pregnancy announcement… I was genuinely honoured. It’s always such a privilege when someone from your past trusts you to document such meaningful moments.
A Beautiful Autumn Setting at Nacton Shores
We met at Nacton Shores in Ipswich, one of my favourite local spots for soft, natural sessions. The long grasses, the calm water and the muted autumn tones made the perfect backdrop for this cosy little announcement shoot.
Including Otis Made the Session Even Sweeter
What made this session even sweeter was having Otis, Poppy’s little boy, join in. He was the star of the show — running through the grass in his “baby bear” jumper, exploring the field, proudly toddling around while Poppy held the scan photos. Getting older siblings involved is something I always encourage for announcement sessions. It helps them feel part of the story right from the beginning, and the photos are always such treasures for the family to look back on.
What are some simple pregnancy announcement photo ideas?
Pregnancy announcement photos don’t need to be overcomplicated. Often, the simplest ideas are the ones that feel the most personal.
An ultrasound scan is always a lovely option and instantly tells the story, while little touches like baby grows, flowers, a blanket or a small picnic setup can add something extra without making the photos feel too staged. You could also include a letterboard, baby shoes or a simple sign if you’d like the announcement itself to be a little more obvious.
For this session, we used their scan photos alongside flowers, a basket and a tiny baby grow, which all worked beautifully with the relaxed outdoor setting.
If you already have children, getting them involved can make the photos feel even more special too. It could be something as simple as them holding the scan picture, cuddling Mum’s bump or just playing naturally alongside you.
The main thing is to choose something that feels like you — your pregnancy announcement doesn’t have to be elaborate to be meaningful.
