A Meaningful Session Close to My Heart

There’s something so special about capturing the very beginning of a family’s journey, and this one feels extra close to my heart. Poppy and I actually went to high school together, so when she messaged me to say she was expecting and wanted me to photograph her pregnancy announcement… I was genuinely honoured. It’s always such a privilege when someone from your past trusts you to document such meaningful moments.

A Beautiful Autumn Setting at Nacton Shores

We met at Nacton Shores in Ipswich, one of my favourite local spots for soft, natural sessions. The long grasses, the calm water and the muted autumn tones made the perfect backdrop for this cosy little announcement shoot.

Including Otis Made the Session Even Sweeter

What made this session even sweeter was having Otis, Poppy’s little boy, join in. He was the star of the show — running through the grass in his “baby bear” jumper, exploring the field, proudly toddling around while Poppy held the scan photos. Getting older siblings involved is something I always encourage for announcement sessions. It helps them feel part of the story right from the beginning, and the photos are always such treasures for the family to look back on.

Relaxed, Honest Moments Filled With Emotion

We kept everything relaxed and honest, the way I love to shoot — Poppy and Jonny laughing together as they held up the scan pictures, Otis climbing over them during the snuggly blanket shots, and a beautiful little basket setup with white roses, baby’s breath and their ultrasound photos tucked inside.

It was the perfect mix of emotional and playful, capturing the excitement of these first few months.

We’ll be meeting for their full maternity session, and then again once baby arrives for their newborn photos. Watching families grow from bump to baby is one of the biggest joys of my job, and I feel so lucky to be documenting Poppy and Johnny’s next chapter.
