There is something so special about photographing a newborn in their own home. This relaxed newborn session took place in Great Blakenham, just outside Ipswich, and was all about capturing those tiny details, sleepy cuddles and the quiet moments of life with a brand-new baby.
In-home newborn photography is perfect for families who want natural, relaxed photographs without needing to pack everything up and leave the house during those first few weeks. Instead, I come to you, allowing the session to unfold gently around your baby and your family.
For this session we made use of the beautiful natural light around the family home, capturing photographs of baby on their own as well as plenty of cuddles with Mum and Dad. The result was a gallery that felt calm, personal and completely true to this stage of their lives.
What is an in-home newborn photography session?
An in-home newborn session is a relaxed photography session that takes place in your own home rather than in a studio.
My approach to newborn photography is very natural and lifestyle-led. Rather than heavily posing your baby or using lots of props, I focus on gentle moments, connection and all those little newborn details you will want to remember.
This might include your baby curled up in your arms, feeding, tiny fingers and toes, sleepy stretches, cuddles on the bed or sofa and photographs of you all together as a family.
What should we wear for an in-home newborn shoot?
Neutral, soft colours photograph beautifully for newborn sessions and help keep the focus on your baby and your connection as a family.
Creams, beige, soft browns, muted greens, dusty pinks, blues and simple natural tones all work particularly well.
I normally recommend avoiding large logos, very bold patterns or extremely bright colours, as these can distract from the soft feel of your newborn photographs.
Most importantly, choose something that feels comfortable and like you.
