Newborn Photography in Colchester – Baby Edward’s Story
Those first few weeks where everything is still new, a little slower, and full of quiet moments you don’t realise you’ll want to remember forever.
Baby Edward’s session in Colchester was exactly that.
Born three weeks early, Edward arrived a little ahead of schedule, and I had the absolute privilege of photographing him right on his due date — which felt like such a full-circle moment. By the time I arrived, he was still so tiny, so new, but already completely settled into his family.
A Calm, Baby-Led Newborn Session at Home
Edward was the dreamiest little soul to photograph. He slept for the majority of the session, completely settled and content, and loved curling onto his side — naturally drifting into those soft, cosy poses without any prompting. It’s always so lovely when babies lead the way like this, and I simply follow, capturing them exactly as they are.
Those gentle side-sleeping moments made for the most beautiful, organic images — the kind that feel timeless without trying too hard.
Soft, Neutral Styling That Just Works
One of my favourite things about this session was how effortlessly everything came together.
Mum wore a soft sage green top — subtle, calming, and so flattering in natural light — whilst dad kept things neutral in a light beige t-shirt and denim. Together, their outfits complemented each other perfectly without feeling overly styled or forced.
It’s exactly the kind of combination I always recommend — soft tones, no harsh contrasts, and pieces that feel like you. It keeps the focus where it should be: on your connection.
For baby, keeping things simple always works best. Edward started in a classic white sleepsuit — timeless, soft, and perfect for those clean, natural images — before changing into a sweet little bear outfit that tied in beautifully with the theme of his nursery.
And paired with Edward’s delicate neutral tones? It all just worked beautifully.
A Nursery Full of Meaning
Edward’s nursery was such a special space to photograph — thoughtfully styled with a soft bear theme that felt both cosy and personal.
Inspired by his parents’ time in Canada, where shortly after they discovered they were expecting, the space held so much quiet meaning. Subtle nods to that chapter of their lives were woven throughout, creating a room that wasn’t just beautifully put together, but full of story.
These are always my favourite spaces to shoot in — the ones that reflect a family’s journey, not just a Pinterest board. It added such a lovely layer to the session, capturing Edward in a space that already holds so much love and intention.
Their Light-Filled Kitchen Moments
We spent part of the session in their stunning kitchen — bright, airy, and full of soft natural light pouring through the windows.
These are always some of my favourite spaces to shoot in because they’re real, lived-in, and full of everyday magic. The kind of place where memories are actually made.
Watching them together, gently holding Edward, completely in their own little world… those are the moments I’m always looking for.
Nothing posed. Nothing forced. Just your story, beautifully told.
Including the Whole Family (Of Course)
And of course, no family session would be complete without including their dog, Rex.
He was so gentle and curious around Edward, popping in for a few moments and making the session feel even more like them. I always encourage including your pets where possible — they’re such a big part of your story too.
Why These Early Weeks Matter
Sessions like this are never about perfection.
They’re about capturing how it felt — the tiny details, the quiet cuddles, the way your baby fits perfectly into your arms.
Edward’s session was soft, calm, and completely led by him — and those always end up being the most meaningful galleries.
