Felixstowe Beach Family Photography | A Relaxed Family Session near Landguard Fort

The stretch of beach near Landguard Fort in Felixstowe is such a lovely location for relaxed family photography. With its open coastline, soft natural light and plenty of space for children to explore, it’s perfect for creating photographs that feel natural and completely unforced. During this session, their little boy spent time skipping stones into the sea, running along the beach and playing chase with Mum and Dad, giving me plenty of opportunities to capture all those fun, genuine moments between them. We also slowed things down for a little while to capture some more traditional family portraits, as well as giving Mum and Dad some time in front of the camera together β€” something that can so easily be forgotten once you have children!

Why choose Felixstowe Beach for a family photography session?

Felixstowe Beach gives us plenty of space to create relaxed, natural photographs while children can move around and be themselves. The quieter stretch of beach near Landguard Fort is especially lovely for family sessions, as it tends to feel more peaceful than some of the busier parts of Felixstowe. There’s also plenty of parking close to the beach, which makes it really convenient for families, especially with little ones. If you’re local to Ipswich, Felixstowe is a great option too, as it’s only a short drive away while still giving you that lovely coastal feel. With the open coastline, sea and the fort nearby, there’s plenty of variety for photographs while keeping the session feeling calm and unhurrie

What should I wear for a family photography session?

Neutral, earthy and softer colours photograph beautifully at the beach. Creams, beige, soft blues, browns and muted tones all work well with the natural colours of the sand and sea. Rather than everyone matching, I usually recommend choosing colours that complement each other and avoiding large logos or very bold patterns.

What if my children wont sit still for photographs?

They absolutely don’t need to! My family sessions are relaxed and child-led, so there’s plenty of walking, playing, cuddling and exploring. Some of the loveliest photographs often happen when children aren’t thinking about the camera at all. I have two children of my own so I know just how important it is to let little ones be comfortable in their environment and not sit and pose!
